Sharon Laws - Bright Boot Camp support rider and Olympian

Congratulations to Sharon Laws who was a support rider at our Bright Boot Camp in January 2008. Sharon was selected for the Women's Olympic Road Race for the British team and rode in support of her team mate Nicole Cooke who won the Gold medal! Sharon finished 35th 0.53 behind the winner, (there were 66 starters and 62 finishers).

Those that watched the race would have seen Sharon on or near the front until the breaks occurred on the last lap. Unfortunately Sharon as involved in a crash about 48km to the finish, and just a few minutes after the favourites move to the front. This was the same crash where the Korean rider fell into the ditch and took the other riders down.

Sharon has had an amazing year. In January she participated in the Australian road championships and came 2nd which was only her eighth bike race.  In June she broke her ankle (fibula) in a training accident and there was concern she would not be able to take her place in the team.

Congratulations Sharon.                                                                       Image Copyright (c) GB Cycling Team

Dave Negus Scores a win in D grade after only a week on the coaching program!

Here is Dave's report, well done Dave on your success!

"I combined a 25km road race with my Saturday workout. 1st time I've raced since Bright last year - got away on the last hill and won D Grade." - Dave Negus

A time trial bike is generally not just a normal road bike with aero bars. The geometry of the bike is a lot different, with a steeper seat angle and different dimensions for the top tube and wheel base. The rider's position on the bike is a lot different, too. It may be more aerodynamic, but it's also a lot less stable. This article discusses the issues with Time Trail bikes.
