The Bright Boot Camp provides informative seminars on riding and fitness from guest speakers from around Australia. These are held in the afternoon.

November 2008 Seminars:

We have firmed up the lectures for the Nov 2008. I'll be covering informative sessions on bike skills including cornering and descending, getting the best out of your HR monitor and insight into how we construct our race winning coaching programs. Marcus Speed will be joining us this year to talk about strength training for cycling - David Heatley.

Boot Camp Cycling Skills
David Heatley - Cycling-Inform Coach
A briefing on what's happening over the next three days and the cycling skills required. We'll be covering descending, cornering, bunch skills and cycling etiquette. We'll also announce the grading of the three teams that you'll be riding in for the rest of the camp and elect your team managers.

Optimised training techniques to improve your cycling disciplines
David Heatley - Cycling-Inform Coach
David explains the 5 most fundamentally important training techniques that will to enable you to achieve your training result. Whether you are a recreational cyclists training for a cycling event or a serious racing cyclist competing at club, state or national level you will go away understating the fundamentals that pros use to enable them to ensure that they are at their optional fitness for their event. In his discussions he'll help to answer your questions regarding successful hill climbing, criterium, time trial and sprint training techniques that will have you riding faster, for longer with more comfort. 

How to effectively use your Polar HR monitor
David Heatley - Cycling-Inform Coach
David will present Polar HR data and provides graphic insight into effectively train with Heart Rate Zones. He will discuss some of the pit falls with current training techniques and how to avoid them. Then he will address how to use your HR monitor to cut your training hours in half while getting much better performance results. These techniques have been very successfully used by recreational and racing cyclists all over the world.

Pilates techniques
Marcus Speed - Master Pilates Instructor, Owner of Perfect Pilate
A former professional runner and boxer, Marcus completed his Pilates training through Stott Pilates in the United States. Upon returning to Australia, he founded the Perfect Pilates studio, and is a founding member of the Dynamic Pilates Association. Marcus specializes in functional strength training, with particular focus on core stability, postural integrity and flexibility. He has worked with various sporting organizations and corporations, including the Australian Davis Cup team, Adelaide Crows football club, LPGA pro golfer Claire Kelleher, Telstra and GE Money. During the Bright Boot Camp Marcus will discuss the ways that Pilates, core stability and flexibility can assist both recreational and competitive cyclists. The presentation will involve demonstrations of Pilates techniques that will provide simple, practical and effective methods of applying functional and core strength to your cycling!

Diet and peak performance
Jace Drain
Jace will present  up-to-date information on the proper nutrition pre and post your event as well as what to eat and drink during your event. Jace is a lecturer at Deakin University in the area of exercise prescription and exercise physiology. He is also nearing completion of his PhD which investigates muscle glycogen (energy) regulation and has a research interest in cycling. He has previously delivered presentations to cycling groups on the areas of training for performance (using current research i.e. cadence training) and nutrition. He was also involved with the Drapac-Porsche team last year during the Tattersalls Cup races and the Herald-Sun tour (main focus was hydration and in-race feeding). 

Personal leadership to achieve work, life & cycling balance
Brendan Rowbotham. 
Brendan is the Team Captain of the CCCC/SHM Elite Team for 2007. Whilst balancing a full time job as a manager at one of Australian's top five insurance companies Brendan has managed to attend post graduate studies and the manage the demands of a young family while racing domestically for the last 13 years at a consistently high level. Brendan will be talking about how to develop your own personal leadership and enable you to take more control of you work, life and cycling balance. His achievements include:

  • 4 top ten stage finishes in the 2006 Tattersall's Tour of the Murray

Importance of functional core strength & weight training for cyclists
Matt Brindle
Matt will introduce some interesting insight into what's missing from current approaches to weight training and core strength for cyclists. Want to climb hills better, sprint faster and post your personal bests for time trials? This seminar will cover the basics to help build an effective core strength and weight training program that is multidimensional.

Bike Positioning to develop maximum power and comfort
Steve Hogg
Steve Hogg has devoted the past 18 years of his life to optimise the position of thousands of cyclists, from 'weekend warriors' and  those with disabilities right through to World Champion cyclists. Steve will share insights that are truly revolutionary. For many cyclists, Steve's advice has made the difference between their return to enjoyable cycling, versus being forced to stop through chronic pain or injury. Steve explains the science and logic behind his ideas. He'll introduce you to aspects of fitness that you made never have considered including neurological and structural fitness. He also explores all aspects of fitness, including core strength and flexibility. And... explains how they impact your cycling comfort and efficiency.
