At this camp registration on the first night included a BBQ cooked by Pau-Ling and Olof, which gave everyone the opportunity to meet others before the first ride.
This camp also saw many return riders from across the camps run in 2007 – in all of the 35 riders, 10 were returned riders out for new challenges and to enjoy those climbs.
Day 1 – Mt Buffalo
Early Friday morning there was a thunderstorm rolling in, with cracks of thunder rattling the windows and lighting, those that were also at the Bright Boot Camp over Melbourne Cup weekend 2007 must have thought they were in for the same wet weekend. However it all cleared up and the weather for this camp was perfect for riding.
All the riders climbed to Mt Buffalo Chalet and enjoyed the views across the valley from the lookout. The seminar the first night was David talking about how the teams would ride together and then Matt Bridle had everyone on their feet doing various exercises.

Day 2 – Tawonga Gap Loop
All riders safely got off to a great start for this stage. Weather was fantastic. The valley riding was clear and relatively wind free with a warm climb up Tawonga Gap after a pit stop at the Tawonga General store. A fantastic decent down the other side of Tawonga Gap brought us into the home stretch into Bright then back to Porepunkah.
The seminar was from Steve Hogg who is world class in bike positioning. There were certainly some interesting ideas and concepts presented by Steve that had a lot of people talking. This was followed by an enjoyable dinner at a local hotel where we enjoyed watching others ride on the large screen.

Day 3 – Mt Hotham
Today the groups rolled off knowing that there were a few thousand Audax Alpine classic riders on the road. Bright Boot Camp riders only overlapped from Germantown to Porepunkah. All the teams rolled out and stayed together until the climb up Mt Hotham. Team 3 and a few from team 2 climbed to the tollbooth which is about ½ way. Those that were turning here seemed happy, others from team 1 & 2 pushed on to the top of Mt Hotham. For the riders that make it to the to there was much celebration and conversation regarding the climb. We waited for most of the riders before descending back down the 45 minutes of decent back to Harrietville
On the way home from Harrietville all the teams rolled turns and watched out for those Audax riders stopping in Bright.
The seminar was from David Heatley presenting data on heart rate zones and the sort of training required based on heart data from racing at certain grades.

Day 4 – Falls Creek
The last ride of the camp again saw some of the riders opt out due to wanting to get home or deciding they would take the opportunity to look around town. Those that did ride to various distances, some the top of Tawonga Gap was enough, other to Mt Beauty and others went all the way to the top of Falls Creek.
Again another successful accent. Food and water was distributed around before we got back on the bikes and descended down through the wonderfully scenic mountain.
Another climb over Tawonga Gap saw us back on familiar roads again, back to Bright then on to Porepunkah.
Thank you all for your participation and the support provided by the support riders. Hope you all enjoyed the Boot Camp and that we see you again soon.
Regards
Jodie & David
